The Forgotten Star
Intrigued by a unique "Sleep With the Ghosts" event at historic Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia, Jim and Natalie decide to explore other forts built in our First System of Coastal Fortifications. Stopping at Fort McHenry in Baltimore- the battle which inspired Francis Scott Key to write The Star-Spangled Banner in 1814, they embark on a journey which takes them on the back streets of Baltimore exploring cryptic symbols of the secretive Freemasons, as well as wandering the open expanses of Washington, D.C. encountering long forgotten monuments to heroes from our past. At the Smithsonian Museum of American History, they become fascinated with a true-life mystery surrounding an American icon- the Star-Spangled Banner and begin a search for the answer.
The Forgotten Star is an historical mystery and gripping narrative of the War of 1812, the heroes who fought in it and the sacred principles which kept them going in spite of long odds against their cause for liberty. The novel weaves a mystery with historic details of how our country came to be what it is today, through numerous wars and epic conflicts. The novel, containing 30 images of historic sites and monuments, is dedicated to all our Veterans, especially those from the "forgotten wars" of 1812, Korea and Vietnam. Its detailed discussion of the characters who helped build the foundation for this idea we call America is both illuminating and inspirational.

Reviews
I really enjoyed the book "The Forgotten Star" by Gene Pisasale. I had just finished reading the book "Memoirs of a Revolutionary War Soldier" that was loaned to me by a friend and I was primed to read another book about the early years of our country. "The Forgotten Star" fit that bill nicely.
"The Forgotten Star" contains elements of adventure, mystery and history that are woven together into a tapestry of excitement I could not put down. The book follows an historian, Jim Peterson, and his wife, Natalie, as they search for the reason behind the star that is missing from "The Star Spangled Banner"...the magnificent banner that flew over Fort McHenry during the war of 1812.
In their research, the couple meet and interact with many other fascinating characters in an interwoven story of crime and intrigue that will keep the reader on the edge of his seat. The author provides extremely interesting historical backgrounds on locations that the couple visit in their quest. I was privileged to visit Washington, D.C. this past summer. I now look on the monuments and exhibits I visited with new interest and I look forward to visiting the other historical sites mentioned in the book.

Author Gene Pisasale deserves a star of his own for making yet another mystery out of history! This time he writes about the missing star on the 1812 American flag that Francis Scott Key saw waving in the dawn's early light over Ft. McHenry. The star's whereabouts have never been discovered, so Pisasale creates his own adventurous solution for his daring duo, Jim and Natalie Peterson, to track down.
More surprises and history evolve from visits with accompanying photos to such historic sites as Philadelphia's Fort Mifflin, Baltimore's Fort McHenry, and Fort Delaware, a former Civil War prison in Delaware Bay. The reader will absolutely love this adventure: just hop into the back seat of Jim and Natalie's BMW and enjoy the ride!
